Today’s Reading: Exodus 23-24, 1 Samuel 26-27, 2 Chron 8, Jeremiah 7-8, Amos 3, Job 37, Psalms 70-71, Mark 9, 2 Corinth 9-10
Jesus is our source of healing, wholeness, and life. He is a balm in Gilead. A panacea for all that ails us. He is an elixir for all of our troubles and pains. At the root of our relationship with Jesus is transformation from corruption unto eternal life. We all have a terminal sin sickness that only Jesus can heal.
Exodus 23:25 Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, 26 and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.
We often take health for granted. That is, until you get sick or know someone close to you who is dealing with a chronic illness. The balm in Gilead was notable for its healing properties. It was rumored to be worth more than gold. In fact, when you find yourself sick, there is no price too high to regain your good health.
Jeremiah 8:22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?
The Lord has not only power over sickness and health, but also life and death. There is nothing impossible for God. You can have great faith in God. The miracles of healing Jesus performed were not an end unto themselves but rather a reflection of His nature as the Son of Man. He is the living Son of God. He gave sight to the blind. He opened the ears of the deaf. He loosed the tongue on the mute. He touched the lepers and made their skin as smooth as a baby’s. He strengthened the legs of the invalid so he could pick up his mat and walk home. He even raised the dead. Are you sick? There is a balm in Gilead… His name is Jesus.
Mark 9:21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” 23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Prayer: Gracious Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for Your Son. Heal me of my sins. Deliver me from the illness of corruption. I put my faith and confidence solely in Your Son alone. Hear my prayer and come to my aid. Place your hand of blessing upon my head. Restore me to the fullness of life and health. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
